Família, patrimônio, saúde, viagens: o que move o brasileiro de alta renda

A Google Brasil study of 792 high-income Brazilians finds R$17M is the average "peace of mind" number, with family, health, and travel topping their priorities.

Google Brasil published a first-of-its-kind study surveying 792 Brazilians with monthly income of at least R$15,000, finding that the average amount this group believes it needs to stop working — or work only on what it enjoys — is R$17 million, per Brazil Journal. The target varies widely: 37% say R$5 million would be enough, while 22% believe they need more than R$30 million. Seven in ten respondents say they are actively saving to reach their target.

Family is both the central motivation and the central fear for this cohort. Because 80% of respondents are married and 84% have children, the most-cited anxiety — flagged by 79% — is failing their families, specifically not being able to provide the life they want for their children or protect their legacy, according to the Brazil Journal report. Loss of status, liquidity, or wealth — labeled "social insecurity" in the study — was cited by 78%, helping explain demand for products such as insurance, private pension plans, asset protection structures, and risk-asset management. Fear of public failure, including missed growth opportunities or business setbacks, came in at 73%, ahead of concern about the broader economic environment at 63%.

Wealth for this group is also tied to experience and wellbeing. The study found 89% derive satisfaction from investing and saving well, while 93% cite leisure and mental rest as sources of pleasure — the same share that mentions travel, fine dining, and cultural activities. Travel functions as the primary reward ritual for most respondents: 65% say visiting countries they haven't yet seen is their top draw, and 63% want to explore more of the world as well as more of Brazil. Among the highest earners, interest grows in gastro-tourism, exotic destinations, and trips to places where friends have already been, the Brazil Journal account notes.

Health and longevity have become significant spending categories within this segment. Eighty-four percent say health is "everything they want" or something they "want very much." The study lists genetic testing, biomarkers, longevity interventions, monitoring devices, concierge medicine, and 24-hour health AI as services this audience is already engaging with. Separately, 74% say they have reduced their social-media exposure, and 81% have performed a "cleanup" of the accounts they follow — a sign of growing selectivity in how they manage public presence.

On the financial side, high-income Brazilians spread relationships across an average of 8.7 institutions, with 92% holding accounts at traditional banks and 89% at digital banks, per Brazil Journal. Insurance penetration among this group stands at 68%, versus 33% for the banked population broadly; global accounts are held by 57%, against 31% for the general banked population. For credit decisions, interest rates are the top factor for 65%, but credit limits compatible with their needs matter to 61%, flexible terms to 59%, and low bureaucracy to 57%.

More than half of respondents received no formal financial education in their youth. As a result, 58% prefer to delegate investment decisions to specialists, compared with 42% who prefer to manage their own portfolios. The study's conclusion, quoted by Brazil Journal, is that financial institutions targeting this segment must go beyond competitive rates to offer genuine personalization, consultative service, diversified portfolios including global and protection solutions, and an experience that acknowledges the complexity of the client.
