Y Combinator Rakes In ₹1,435 Cr From Groww Stake Sale, Clocks 55.7X Return
Y Combinator sold 7.47 crore Groww shares for ₹1,435 Cr via bulk deal, booking a 55.7x return on its original cost of ₹3.45 per share.
Y Combinator sold 7.47 crore shares of Groww parent Billionbrains Garage Ventures for ₹1,435.2 crore through a bulk deal, per Inc42. The US-based accelerator executed the transaction through its affiliate YC Holdings II LLC at ₹192.16 per share.
The deal produced a return multiple of nearly 55.7x, according to Inc42, which cited BSE bulk deal data. Y Combinator's weighted average acquisition cost stood at ₹3.45 per share, meaning the shares sold had originally cost it about ₹25.77 crore. With this transaction, Y Combinator has now cumulatively realised around ₹4,132 crore from its Groww investment across three separate exit events.
Those prior exits include ₹1,054.8 crore from the OFS component of Groww's IPO in November 2025 — when Y Combinator sold 10.54 crore shares at a 29x gain — and a further ₹1,642 crore through block deals in May 2026 after the IPO lock-in period expired. In those May deals, Y Combinator was joined by Peak XV Partners and Ribbit Capital, with the three investors collectively selling a 4.7% stake worth roughly ₹5,325 crore.
Despite the latest sell-down, Y Combinator remains Groww's second-largest shareholder after Peak XV, per Inc42. Its stake has fallen from 9.8% (61.48 crore shares held through YC Holdings II and YCCG21 L.P. as of end-June 2026) to approximately 8.6%, or 54.01 crore shares, following the transaction.
Groww made its market debut in November 2025 in what was India's second-largest fintech IPO at the time, listing at a 14% premium to its ₹100 issue price. Since listing, the stock has risen roughly 71% from its BSE listing price and nearly doubled from its IPO issue price, gaining about 24.9% on a year-to-date basis as of the time of the article, per Inc42.
The company's fundamentals have kept pace with the share price. Groww reported a 94.3% year-on-year jump in consolidated net profit to ₹735 crore in Q1 FY27, up from ₹378.4 crore in the year-ago quarter, while operating revenue rose 66% to ₹1,501.4 crore from ₹904.4 crore in Q1 FY26. At the time of publication, shares were trading at ₹194.75 on the BSE, up 0.54% on the day.
