5.1 Lakh Complaints Filed Against Ecommerce Platforms In 2025: Govt
India's National Consumer Helpline received 5.1 lakh complaints against ecommerce and quick commerce platforms in 2025, up ~14% from 4.4 lakh in 2024.
More than 5.1 lakh complaints were registered against ecommerce and quick commerce platforms on India's National Consumer Helpline (NCH) in 2025, the government told Parliament, per Inc42. The figure marks a roughly 14% increase over the 4.4 lakh complaints filed against online marketplaces in 2024.
The data was disclosed in a written reply to the Lok Sabha by BL Verma, minister of state for consumer affairs. Flipkart led all platforms with 1.3 lakh complaints, followed by Amazon at 91,248 and Meesho at 29,284, according to Inc42. Fashion platform Myntra drew 25,384 complaints, while Reliance-owned Netmeds received 19,895. Quick commerce players Zepto and Blinkit saw 5,774 and 5,102 complaints respectively, and beauty platform Nykaa attracted more than 3,400.
By complaint type, non-delivery of products was the single largest category at 79,818 cases, followed closely by delivery of wrong products (75,426). A further 61,056 consumers complained about replacement or refund failures, and 60,969 flagged delivery of defective or damaged goods, as Inc42 reports. Other reported issues included product delays, customer service failures, missing orders, and sale of counterfeit products.
MoS Verma told Parliament that NCH disposed of all complaints received on the portal in 2025. He also said the helpline facilitated refunds worth ₹91 crore to consumers between April 2025 and June 2026. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has separately imposed penalties totalling nearly ₹1.1 crore on 47 ecommerce platforms to date. Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, ecommerce companies are required to appoint a grievance officer, acknowledge complaints within 48 hours, and resolve them within one month.
The disclosure lands amid a broader regulatory crackdown on quick commerce platforms over food safety violations. Earlier this week, Karnataka's Food Safety Division sealed a Zepto warehouse in Bengaluru's Hoskote, citing non-compliant product labelling, misbranding, and unhygienic storage conditions, per Inc42. Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration also recently suspended the food licence of a Blinkit facility in Mumbai's Malad West after inspectors found a cockroach infestation and multiple food-safety violations. Both Zepto and Blinkit have faced similar enforcement actions in Maharashtra going back to the previous year, with a Blinkit dark store in Pune's Balewadi and a Zepto warehouse in Mumbai's Dharavi each shut down over food safety breaches.
